Forest River’s XLR Toy Haulers have surpassed 15,000 cumulative retail unit sales, marking a significant milestone for the brand and its position in the toy hauler market.

The milestone was identified during a review of XLR’s historical retail sales data. According to Forest River, the achievement also gives the brand an opportunity to look ahead as customer expectations and the recreational uses of RVs continue to evolve.

For XLR, the next phase includes a refreshed brand identity, redesigned exteriors and new models for the 2027 model year.

XLR Reaches a Major Sales Milestone

XLR specializes in toy haulers designed to combine RV living space with dedicated cargo areas for recreational equipment such as motorcycles, ATVs and side-by-sides.

The current XLR lineup includes Boost and Nitro models, with configurations spanning travel trailers and fifth wheels.

Lance Lees, product manager for XLR Toy Haulers, said the 15,000-unit milestone represents thousands of customers who have chosen the brand while also providing an opportunity to consider what comes next for XLR.

The company says its focus is now on developing products that reflect changing customer expectations while giving dealers additional opportunities in the toy hauler segment.

2027 XLR Models Bring a New Direction

XLR is using the 2027 model year to introduce a refreshed appearance and updated floorplans.

Two models highlighted by Forest River are the Nitro 41G14 and Boost 2115B, which take different approaches to the toy hauler market.

The Nitro 41G14 is designed around a larger fifth-wheel platform. It features a separate garage, three slide-outs, a kitchen island, front bedroom and bath-and-a-half layout. Its rear ramp can also be converted into a patio area.

The model also includes a 150-gallon fresh-water tank and a 40-gallon fuel station, features aimed at owners planning longer trips with recreational equipment.

The Boost 2115B takes a more compact approach.

At 28 feet, 6 inches, the travel trailer incorporates an 8-foot ramp door and cargo area without using slide-outs. Its Murphy bed helps create additional living space during the day, while flexible garage furniture allows the cargo area to serve different purposes after recreational equipment is unloaded.

The Boost 2115B also includes a standard 200-watt solar panel.

Toy Haulers Continue to Serve a Distinct RV Market

Toy haulers occupy a somewhat different position from conventional travel trailers and fifth wheels because they combine accommodation with dedicated cargo capacity.

For owners who regularly travel with motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides or other recreational equipment, that additional space can be a major part of the buying decision.

The demographic information cited by Forest River also points toward a relatively broad RV consumer base. The company’s release referenced the 2025 Go RVing RV Owner Demographic Profile, which reported a median RV-owner age of 49, with 46% of current owners between 35 and 54. The study also reported that 43% of current RV owners have children under 18.

Those characteristics are relevant to toy haulers because the category can appeal to families and recreational users looking to combine camping with outdoor activities.

XLR Plans Additional Product Expansion

XLR’s product development isn’t stopping with the updated Nitro and Boost models.

Forest River said XLR would debut its return to stick-and-tin travel trailers at the Forest River Expo held Sept. 28–Oct. 1, adding another product direction to the lineup.

The move gives the brand another way to address buyers looking for toy-hauler functionality in a more traditional travel-trailer construction.

Forest River’s current XLR lineup continues to include dedicated Nitro fifth-wheel products as well as other configurations.

What the 15,000-Sales Milestone Means

The 15,000-unit milestone comes during a period when the broader RV industry is dealing with softer retail and wholesale activity.

For context, THOR Industries reported that U.S. and Canadian retail registrations for North American towable RVs declined 15.5% during the first six months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.

Against that broader market backdrop, XLR’s milestone provides a useful look at the continued presence of specialized RV categories such as toy haulers.

The next test for the brand will be whether its redesigned products and new floorplans can attract both existing toy-hauler customers and RV buyers who may be considering the category for the first time.

What RV Buyers Should Watch

For consumers considering a toy hauler, the XLR changes highlight several areas worth evaluating:

  • Garage size and cargo capacity: Make sure the garage can accommodate the equipment you actually intend to carry.
  • Overall length: Larger toy haulers can provide more living space but may require more planning at campgrounds.
  • Fresh-water and fuel capacity: These specifications can matter for extended off-grid trips.
  • Floorplan flexibility: Features such as Murphy beds, convertible garage furniture and patio ramps can make the same space useful for multiple purposes.
  • Solar and electrical equipment: Built-in solar can provide additional flexibility, but buyers should evaluate the complete battery and electrical system rather than looking at panel wattage alone.
  • Tow vehicle requirements: Fifth-wheel and larger toy-hauler configurations can impose substantial towing and payload requirements.

The Bottom Line

Forest River XLR’s achievement of 15,000 cumulative retail sales marks an important point in the brand’s history, but the more interesting story may be what comes next.

With a refreshed identity, redesigned exteriors, updated floorplans and additional product development, XLR is positioning its 2027 lineup around changing expectations from toy-hauler buyers.

For RV shoppers, the expanding lineup also illustrates how manufacturers are continuing to differentiate RVs around specific recreational lifestyles rather than treating every buyer as having the same needs.
